Kannad Marine SafeLink R10 SRS
A West Marine Top 6 Product For 2012

Kannad Marine, a business of the Orolia Group (NYSE Alternext Paris- FR001050105 – ALORO) announces that the SafeLink R10 SRS (Survivor Recovery System), which is now approved for sale in the US, has been chosen by West Marine, the USA’s largest retailer of boating equipment and accessories, as one of its top six products for 2012.

Kannad SafeLink R10

The SafeLink R10, Overall Winner of the 2012 Pittman Innovation Awards, is worn on a lifejacket and activated by sliding off the safety tab and lifting an arming cap to deploy the antenna. The compact, lightweight unit sends alert messages, GPS position and a special identity code directly to AIS receivers within approximately a four mile radius. A flashing LED light aids location at night.

A unique, built-in, high precision GPS receiver - which updates every 60 seconds – assures accuracy of the data transmitted from the R10 SRS. With precise location, distance and bearing data, fellow crew members (and nearby AIS- enabled receivers) receive all the information they need to locate the position of the person in difficulty and to enable a speedy recovery.

The R10 SRS will transmit continuously for up to 24 hours and has a seven year battery storage life. It is made of ultra durable ABS and is waterproof to five meters.

FCC Approval For Kannad Marine SafeLink R10 SRS

Kannad Marine, a business of the Orolia Group (NYSE Alternext Paris – FR0010501015 – ALORO) announces that its SafeLink R10 SRS (Survivor Recovery System), the Overall Winner of the 2012 Pittman Innovation Awards, has been formally approved for sale in the US by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

The revolutionary SafeLink R10 is a world-first personal AIS device, designed to be worn by anyone who spends time on the water for work or leisure purposes.

Kannad SafeLink R10

“With this FCC certification, the United States joins a growing list of countries worldwide that have granted type approval for the SafeLink R10 SRS,” said McMurdo Ltd Global Sales Director Ross Wilkinson.

Intended to be attached to a lifejacket and activated by individuals in difficulty at sea, the innovative R10 uses both GPS and AIS (Automatic Identification System) technology to send structured alert messages containing precise location information to AIS equipment onboard the vessel that the individual has come from and other AIS equipped vessels within about a four mile radius. In a man overboard situation, chances of finding and recovering the casualty are greatly increased, thanks to information given by the R10 which for the first time shows bearing and distance to the man in the water.

$75 Rebate On Kannad Marine SafeLink EPIRB
Good on purchases through May 31, 2012

Kannad SafeLink EPIRB

A $75 rebate is available on US and Canadian purchases of the Kannad Marine SafeLink EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon) through May 31, 2012.

The rebate applies to purchases of the SafeLink model 10-K1202367 with auto housing and the model 10-K1202311 with manual bracket. Information on claiming the rebate is available from Survitec Survival Products, the US distributor of Kannad Marine products, at www.survitec-spi.com/promo.

The SafeLink 406 MHz EPIRB has integral GPS for highly accurate position information. It works on the global COSPAS SARSAT search and rescue satellite system (www.cospas-sarsat.org), which is supported by international government search and rescue authorities around the world, so a call for help will be acted upon and fast.

The ultra compact and stylish 406 MHz SafeLink represents the next generation in EPIRB technology for both commercial mariners and recreational boaters. It is the first EPIRB to have an integrated antenna, enabling the compact size - and a user-replaceable battery, making future battery changes easier and more economical for the owner (for non legislated applications only).

SafeLink is waterproof and floats upright, allowing it to be tethered to a life raft and left to transmit. The powerful 406 MHz 5 watt output transmission ensures that a call for help gets through to the international search and rescue authorities, even from the most remote locations around the world.

Once activated, the SafeLink EPIRB transmits a unique identification signal along with current position via the COSPAS SARSAT search and rescue satellite system on 406 MHz. The signal will continue to transmit for at least 48 hours at temperatures as low as -20°c. The integral high accuracy GPS provides an accurate position, typically +/- 62 meters along with new position updates every 20 minutes for fast recovery. SafeLink also features a 121.5MHz homing signal to further assist with local recovery, while its high-brightness LED flashing locator lights aid visual location.

Kannad SafeLink R10

McMurdo Ltd, a company of the Orolia Group (NYSE Alternext Paris – FR0010501015 – ALORO) today announced that its Kannad Marine SafeLink R10 SRS (Survivor Recovery System) has been selected as the Overall Winner of the 2012 Pittman Innovation Awards. The Pittman Innovation Awards are named in honor of Freeman K. Pittman, SAIL magazine’s technical editor for 14 years, who died in 1996 from ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease).

This is the first year an Overall Winner of the Pittman Awards has been selected by the judges. The judging panel recognized that the SafeLink R10 was “the perfect man-overboard product” and commented on how the integration of AIS and GPS in to a personal distress beacon is a significant innovation in sailing safety. On this basis the panel agreed that the R10 topped a strong field of contenders.

The R10 SRS can be seen this weekend at SAIL Magazine's Innovation Station at Strictly Sail Chicago.
